It’s no secret that comic book TV shows have become an increasingly lucrative market for networks and streaming services, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s about damn time. I know some film aficionados would disagree due to stereotypes about comics (or “graphic novels” if you want to be all fancy about it) being superhero fluff. But, as any adult comic book reader knows, that is hardly the case. I’d argue that some of the most intellectual and unique fiction being written today is originating in comics.
TV, in particular, is also an ideal medium for bringing these stories to life. My reasoning here is that comic book publication schedule is very similar to that of TV shows. They are released in single issues (or “episodes”) and story arcs are released in volumes that bound several issues together (or seasons).
So what I’m saying here, is that comic books are made for TV and I hope this trend keeps moving forward! Check out some of the streaming comic book tv shows below and let me know if you agree.
